I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (Canadian Counselling Psychology Association) with over 16 years of experience as a school counsellor and as a mental health clinician in various health settings. My main area of expertise is supporting children and youth with learning differences and other presenting concerns such as anxiety, mood disorders, self-harm, relationships conflicts and challenging behaviors. I also provide educational counselling and consulting services to families for children and youth who are struggling at school. I have completed post-graduate work in play therapy, family therapy, couples counselling and clinical supervision. I also provide counselling support to couples, families and parents around parenting skills. I am an experienced clinical counselling supervisor, and work with adult students by providing both peer and individual supervision.
I have a forward focused, positive, and relaxed approach to counselling which focuses on relationships, trust, and strengths-building. I use a variety of modalities and practices but my founding philosophy is Adlerian Therapy. Adlerian Therapy is both humanistic and goal oriented and is rooted in recognizing and improving each individual's desired sense of belonging, connectedness with others, community wellness and social interest.
In working with children Alfred Adler stated “a misbehaving child is a discouraged child." Children and youth will be more responsive and cooperative when they are encouraged and respected by their attachment figure and experience feelings of adequacy and support while still being held accountable for their actions. In working with children and youth there will ideally be family involvement in counselling so we can all work together to best support your child. Educational counselling offers support to families through practical psychoeducational information as opposed to therapeutic practice. I help families with their understanding of learning differences, assist in deciphering psychoeducational assessments, and facilitate or support communication with schools. In supervision, my goal is to create an open and welcoming space for you to safely explore your strengths and challenges to enhance your counselling practice. Supervision can be done independently, in groups, or via facilitation of peer group supervision.
I look forward to us working together to create positive changes that include formulating goals to help identify the actions required for you to
create a more positive, connected and enjoyable life journey.
I am always happy to connect for a free 15 minute consultation to see if I am a good fit for you and/or your family.
